Well I've deleted anyone registering with an email address ending in mail.ru. It's a simple measure but should actually stop a lot of the bots.
Further measures will have to be taken when I have the time. I'm coming to the end of a three month work contract on Friday, so if I don't get another job by the following Monday, I'll have time to do some Zzap stuff again!

In some sites, if you want to register, you are shown an image with text in it, and you are asked to transcribe the text. Bots can't do that (unless they have a very smart OCR engine).
Could be a nice idea (as long as you can find an automatic generator of image-ified text)
