More Megatapes online

Hi all,
some time ago I bought a copy of the Zzap! Mega-Tape, the one attached to issue 42, and a copy of the Zzap! Sampler, the one with Gribbly's etc., and put clean dumps of those on c64tapes.org.

Now c64tapes.org is down (the admin told me "I've got backup of all files. The plan is to put it on the web again" but there's no timeline, so better not wait for it). Therefore I dug up the dumps from an old HD and put them on Dropbox (same URL as posted on this Lemon thread).

The same path contains more Megatape dumps, namely all those that are not on the DVD (nor on archive.org, that has a verbatim copy of the tapes on the DVD) and I had in my collection or bought from eBay. Even the dump of Megatape 35 is mine (even though Frank Gasking also dumped it and put it online for a short period: the one in that Dropbox folder is not Frank's dump).

Now, this could be an occasion to put a really complete archive of Megatapes on this site. I know, it is not the first time I ask for this, but the search engine says that the last time I did on this forum was in 2007, so that's not too often...

Note: Mort may have updated the collection of tapes on the DVD since the first edition

Okay, Fab sounds like a great idea. I can at least put up a page and a link to each tape, if nothing else!

Well, I was sitting there after writing my reply above and almost knew, that if I just put it on the long finger, it would be there with all the other stuff, so amazingly, I got off the couch and went up to my study and came up with this:

http://www.zzap64.co.uk/zzap-megatapes/index.php

A new page on the site! Weird coding in plain HTML and quite painful with the "styling" of the old pages. I think I will have to redo the whole site bit by bit with the old site on the LHS of my editor and the new on the RHS. Just doing a page at a time and then going live with that, just won't work I think...

Anyway, the taps in your Dropbox folder are up and I should find all the others on Mort's DVD? I'll check with him if any have been updated over the years. I assume I have a very old version of the DVD.

A new page on the site!
Hooray! Thank you Iain!

Either on Mort's DVD, or at https://archive.org/details/zzap-program-disks (which is the same as the DVD, at least the early version of the DVD). Note that the DVD and archive.org tended to split each game in its own .TAP, while I am for dumping an entire side to a single .TAP because it feels closer to the original tape.
Some tapes are already on the site: 10, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 28, 32, 33. In those cases, it should just be a matter of adding a link to an existing URL.

I just put each Megatape not in the website in its own .zip file, and, for each, I made some HTML.
All the tape images and cover scans come from archive.org, therefore indirectly from the DVD.
The .TAP files inside the .zip files come from archive.org where available, otherwise they come from my own dumps (which have been added to the website by Iain).
The HTML of the pages was originally downloaded from here, then hand-edited for each tape.
It can be found at https://www.dropbox.com/sh/6s8itz3rjl4k ... npMma?dl=0 . If Iain is willing to add that to the website, it should be a matter of dumping all the files (except the 'fake' index.shtml whose purpose is to test the pages quickly) in the static file folder.

Cool Fab, first for reminding me that I have some Megatapes on the site all ready. I checked a few HTML magazine index pages but didn't see any. Seems I have quite a few up there as it is! :)

I'll get your files from Dropbox and look at uploading them within a few days. Thanks for your work.

The ZIP for the Zzap! Sampler issue 26 also contained the MP3 recording of side B, Thalamusic... but that is already downloadable from the site now. Therefore I uploaded a new, smaller ZIP, with the TAP only (and updated the ZIP's size in the relative HTML).
